Nearly 200 years ago, Simeon Turley established Turley Mill, a popular trading post and watering hole in Valdez, a village less than 12 miles north of Taos. There he milled flour, distilled Taos Lightning whiskey, and traded with mountain men, trappers, and other colorful figures of the Old West.
